We’ve Arrived!

We’ve landed… and it’s not quite what we expected.

So, here’s our instagram photo, everyone looking bright eyed and bushy tailed after a 14 hour (16 including delays) flight. What a gorgeous family. What this photo doesn’t reveal is the 4 changes of clothes Ash went through as he continued to puke everywhere during the flight. Poor kid. It was super turbulent and he just couldn’t cope. Here he is in his big sisters finest leggings.

The rain was coming down and Anneke was ever so disappointed. “It’s just like Holland” she declared, sad face.

I was dreading the stop gap apartment – I had read the brief, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and I was fretting. We have just shared a bed with Ash for the last week – where he liked to lie across both our heads and wake up at 5am. Anyhow, it wasn’t quite what they described.

Thus far, we have eaten at most of the hotel restaurants, annoyed the other patrons at breakfast, hung out in the pool, played in the sand and generally relaxed. We thought we’d grab a few groceries in the Abu Dhabi mall. BIG MISTAKE! BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE.

Firstly, the supermarket was the size of a small suburb (an entire aisle dedicated to salt) and then after spending 40 minutes gathering the ingredients for a simple pasta, we couldn’t find the car. Another 40 minutes, drenched in sweat – we stumbled upon it.

It’s not all bad. I’m busy researching our first adventure. A desert safari…..
