We recently took a much-needed family break to Lisbon during the winter, and we had an amazing time. The weather was surprisingly sunny, and we enjoyed exploring the city’s sights and attractions.
Our first stop was the historic Castle Sao Jorge, which offered stunning panoramic views of the city and the Tagus River. We also rode the famous Tram 28, which is a must-do experience in Lisbon. The tram took us through some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, and we enjoyed the scenic ride.

The following day, we caught a train to Sintra, a charming town located about 40 minutes from Lisbon. Once there, we hopped on a tuk-tuk to the famous Palace Pena, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace’s colorful and ornate architecture was breathtaking, and the views of the surrounding landscape were incredible. We hiked down the hill back into town, which was a fun adventure.

Next, we drove to Albufeira, which was an entirely different experience. The sun was shining, and we spent our days hiking along the coastline and rocks in Carvoeiro, enjoying the sandy beaches, and soaking up the warm weather. One day, we had lunch at Ria de Alvor, which was a beautiful spot with stunning views.

On our way back to Lisbon, we stayed on the top floor of an amazing Airbnb in Santa Maria Maior, right in the city with views down to the water. The accommodations were perfect, and we enjoyed the stunning views of the city and the Tagus River.

Overall, our winter break in Lisbon was a lovely sunny break in the middle of winter. We enjoyed exploring the city’s sights and attractions, as well as soaking up the sun and enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding areas. We highly recommend Lisbon as a winter destination and can’t wait to go back.
